Show Me The
Evidence “Show me the evidence!” is
one of our hallmark demands. Although deceptively short and simple,
this is a formidable demand. Whether you are a novice or veteran,
student or instructor, practitioner or researcher, regardless of
specialty, each of us has an obligation to engage in valid,
reliable, evidence-based practices. Again, a hallmark of our
profession, yet a tall order to fill. During this session, we’ll
break it all down so that you can deliver the evidence.
This session engages participants in:
§
evidence essentials, such as, what it is, what it is
NOT, where it comes from, how to get it
§
distinguishing fact from folklore, science from
serendipity, empirical from anecdotal
§
fulfilling your professional obligations for evidence
§
forging partnerships that integrate evidence and
practice.
Roll up your sleeves, join the
discussion, and contribute to the partnership.

Note: (This
presentation is based on the book: “Building Business Acumen for
Trainers: Skills to Empower the Learning Function”, Pfeiffer,
September 2006)…
"This book
admirably fills a serious gap in the professional practice of
learning and performance -- lack of business savvy. It is clearly
written, case-based, concrete and comprehensive. I especially
appreciated the financial and return-on-investment content. I was
also delighted that it contains material on Human Performance
Technology. I will recommend this volume to my students, colleagues
and corporate clients."
Harold D. Stolovitch, PhD, CPT. Emeritus Professor, Université
de Montréal, Principal, HSA Learning & Performance Solutions LLC
and author of the award winning "Telling Ain't Training" and
"Training Ain't Performance" books
“Some of the
jewels of this book are it explains the language of finance; it
provides practical advice on how to communicate the case for
investing in development initiatives, and it is full of guidance on
how to collaborate with the business to determine the payback of
investing in development solutions. The case studies used
throughout the book brings ideas to life in an exciting way. This
is one of those books every HR, HRD, and training professional
should have.”
Judith A.
Hale, Ph.D., CPT,
author of Outsourcing Training and Development: Factors for Success
“Relevance is
in the eye of the beholder. And for training professionals who want
to earn a seat at the strategic planning table, nothing can help
build corporate relevance better than applying the skills outlined
in this book which will show you how to turn training into business
results.”

The Breakfast meeting is a small group of people getting together, usually on
the fourth Wednesday of the month, to discuss issues of Human Performance as related to their jobs. The term
Breakfast is used so we could look at a general area of the city or state to form groups.
Anyone in our Chapter can sponsor a
Breakfast meeting. It does not require special expertise even though you will gain expertise by sponsoring it. There is little special preparation, organization, or formalities. |
